The 5 Rules of Sea Turtle Tourism

Sea turtles are among the cutest reptiles, but they face significant threats due to human influences. To promote responsible turtle tourism, here are five important rules:

1. Don't Touch Turtles: Touching or riding turtles causes them stress and can transfer harmful bacteria from your hands. It's also illegal in many places.

2. Don't Chase Turtles: Give sea turtles space to breathe, as they need to surface for air. Chasing them can lead to distress, and they might get stuck underwater, risking drowning.

3. Don't Disturb Nesting: Female turtles need peace to lay eggs. Distractions and artificial lights can disrupt their nesting behavior. Respect their space during this critical process.

4. Don't Harass Hatchlings: Resist the urge to pick up baby sea turtles. They imprint on their hatching beach, and interference can reduce their chances of survival. Call an expert for assistance if needed.

5. Don't Litter: Marine debris poses a significant threat to sea turtles. Dispose of your trash properly to prevent them from ingesting harmful materials and suffering from starvation or entanglement.

Protecting sea turtles requires our respect and responsible actions when encountering these magnificent creatures.
